Characterization of Thin Gas Hydrate Reservoir in Ulleung Basin with Stepwise Seismic Inversion

چکیده
Natural gas hydrates (GHs) filling sand layer pores are the most promising GHs that can be produced via conventional mechanisms in deep-sea environments. However, seismic tracking of such thin GH-bearing layers is subject to certain limitations. For example, because and sparsely interbedded with mud layers, data a maximum resolution ~10 m limited use for describing their spatial distribution. The 2010 Ulleung Basin drilling expedition identified relatively good GH reservoir at UBGH2-6 site. individual this site cannot therefore reliably tracked using techniques. This study presents new method stepwise inversion 3D datasets two different resolutions. high-resolution acoustic impedance volume obtained then used trace harnessed methods. Moreover, we estimate regional distribution based on saturation derived from UBGH2-6. previously viewed as single resolution, further subdivided, traced, characterized terms lateral variation.

Reservoir characterization via time-lapse prestack seismic inversion
Diierencing of time-dependent seismic monitor surveys requires that datasets are collected and processed consistently. Inconsistencies can result in data diierence noise great enough to obscure any reservoir changes. Inversion applied to each dataset may account for some of these inconsistencies. As an example, if the shape, temporal location, or radiation pattern of the seismic energy source i...
متن کاملIdentification of Gas Accumulation Adjacent to the Gas Hydrate Bearing Zone by Inversion Utilizing AVO Attribute
The presence of gas hydrate and associated gas in the Makran Accretionary Prism, offshore Iran, has been confirmed by various seismic indicators, including the bottom-simulating reflector (BSR), amplitude blanking, and bright spot. The pre-stack analysis and the study of amplitude-variation-with-offset (AVO) attributes are the most reliable tools for semi-quantitative study of gas hydrate and f...

Continuous acoustic travel-time measurements from a two-dimensional array of pressure-gauge-equipped inverted echo sounders spanning the entire Ulleung Basin of the southwestern Japan/East Sea between June 1999 and July 2001 are used to examine the upper temperature and current patterns. A new method, referred to as the Residual GEM Technique, interprets the travel-time data into a three-dimens...

Sorting is a useful predictor for permeability. We show how to invert seismic data for a permeable rock sorting parameter by incorporating a probabilistic rock-physics model with floating grains into a Bayesian seismic inversion code that operates directly on rock-physics variables. The Bayesian prior embeds the coupling between elastic properties, porosity, and the floating-grain sorting param...
متن کاملObserved deep circulation in the Ulleung Basin
Records from 16 current meters and 23 pressure gauges moored near the sea floor in the Ulleung Basin of the southwestern Japan/East Sea (JES) characterized the deep circulation between June 1999 and July 2001. Mean currents range from 1 to 4 cm/s and deep pressure anomalies range from 3 to 10mbar, with horizontal correlation scales of about 40 km, and with integral time scales that range from a...
